150th Anniversary

Introduction

Wesley College will be commemorating 150 years of producing young men of integrity and caliber in 2024. Founded by Rev Daniel Henry Pereira on 2nd March 1874, in Pettah, Wesley College has been serving the nation irrespective of nationality or religion. While serving the community in Pettah Rev Henry Highfield felt the need for a quieter surrounding for Wesley College and it was he who moved Wesley College to its present site in 1905. We remain grateful to the missionaries of the Methodist Church for having tirelessly labored in providing an atmosphere of tranquility and understanding for the students of Wesley College so that on leaving the school, the boys are able to face the struggles of the wider world with courage and fortitude. No doubt the labours of Rev. Daniel Henry Pereira, has nurtured a rich crop of which we in this present age are beneficiaries and we are sure this harvest will be reaped by generations yet unborn. We remember with gratitude the commitment of our founder Rev. Daniel Henry Pereira, who despite numerous difficulties took the initiative to establish this school. We are grateful to God who has been the cornerstone of this School from its inception and has enabled the management to move on with a solid vision.

2024 will be an incredible year to celebrate a journey of 150 years. One word that best describes our feeling and fervor and probably binds us all as we reach this landmark is GRATITUDE. All of us owe a special expression of gratitude to our Alma Mater which molded us from ‘little boys’ to ‘teenagers’ and then to become ‘Men of Grit’.

A Sesquicentenary is an achievement, and we hope to mark this major milestone of our school by planning a range of activities, some of which have already begun.

This website is launched in order for our alumni both here and abroad, parents & students to be familiar with the upcoming activities, projects and events.
